More Pressure Needed on Sudan

The good news about Darfur is that Sudanese leaders recently agreed
to the deployment of a full United Nations-African Union hybrid
peacekeeping force. The bad news is that they have actually "agreed"
to this before -- but took no positive action.

Sudan's air force and the Janjaweed continue attacking Darfuri
villages. Because of continued violence, a major aid group is
permanently withdrawing. Any regime that has killed thousands of its
own people and displaced an additional 2 million needs to be
brought to account.

World leaders need to make it clear to Sudan’s President Bashir that
they will not tolerate more broken promises. They need to put
immediate pressure on Sudan to ensure that it not only allows an
effective peacekeeping force, but then takes the necessary steps to a
full peace agreement, including unhindered delivery of humanitarian
aid to the millions relying on it to survive.

To help bring peace and protection to the people of Darfur, write to
President Bush, The White House, Washington DC 20500, urging him to
act promptly.
